FAQ

  • Who is behind the pink house?

We are a group of young BIPOC LGBTQ+ Springs locals who are passionate about creating a new community space in our Downtown!

We will have full bios up for our current team in the early New Year and are excited to meet you in person at our upcoming events too!

In the meantime, you can find interviews with us and see us sharing about our project in a recent report by KOAA news !

  • Why are you making the pink house?

Our community desperately needs space to gather, and clubs like Queer Art Club and others have outgrown the current spaces available to them. There is only one other gay bar in town currently operating but a city of our size could have an entire gay-borhood of fun queer businesses and spaces!

We want to build a permanent home for queer joy in Colorado Springs, one that is able to be a touchpoint and community hub for many for a long time to come. Our community needs coffee shops, restaurants, space to dance and gather and organize. Our community needs daytime activities that are accessible to all ages!

It is less common these days, after the proliferation of franchising, for people to get together with their friends and go into business to build something they need to see in the world but it is possible and we are bucking the trends and doing it!

  • When will the pink house open?

We will keep you updated on our timeline as we go along but we would love to open ASAP!

  • Where will the pink house be?

    Downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado!

  • Why are you raising money to start the pink house?

Starting a business and securing a building is expensive!

We are currently going through this phase of raising money from the community through donations, rather than starting by going after large investors, so that we are able to build this space together, for everyone, with the flexibility to make decisions that are solely based on what is good for the community. However, we are currently still existing under a system of capitalism that usually means that decisions have to be made based on money instead of what is best for people. Raising a large lump sum through many, many small donors with means that this space will be by the community, for the community, and will maintain in the hands of the community for the long term.

  • why are you raising $1,111,111?

We are raising funds to be able to ideally purchase a building in the downtown area because this will allow for more flexible use of the space than would be the case if we were trying to lease space. Buying in cash would be an ideal situation as it would keep monthly costs lower in the future and allow us to have a sustainable model that can create well-paying jobs and help keep prices low and free events possible! However, we also plan to get started in any way we can with any amount, and have multiple options for making this happen! We are committed to being fully transparent about how we use these funds and will keep you updated as we go along!

    Thank you for your support!

  • How will the money be used?

We are committed to creating this space and seeing this project through and will continue to raise funds until we are able to open and secure a place for the long term.

We will use the money for the typical business expenses and to create a solid foundation for this community space. Ideally, we will be buying a building (the final goal, so that this space can last and stay accessible), and we are open to securing a lease (to start) in the meantime, depending on the pace of fundraising. We will also use this money to pay for the startup costs of opening a commercial kitchen and getting the space together, and especially doing everything we can to ensure that this space is accessible and safe. Any money left over after these initial start-up costs will be put towards a “future fund” that is able to ensure that we are able to keep the doors open for the long term. It will take solid funds to ensure that the space is well staffed and especially to make sure that it is secure for our community, and it will be helpful to have an emergency fund to ensure that we can keep our space safe and accessible, including factoring in the added cost of regular security, as this space must be more secure than a typical space in order for our community to feel truly safe and be truly accessible.

  • how can I help?

We are so excited you are here with us!

We are currently working on spreading the word to our community and the extended Springs community as far and wide as possible, so tell please feel free to tell your friends and family about this project!

We are so grateful for all of your kind and generous support! Currently we are raising money through small-dollar donations to be able to secure a building and get started on actually building it out and creating The Pink House in the real world! Once we secure a building, we will have even more fun opportunities to help in person- like community garden days and more! This is a collective effort and we are so lucky and grateful that you all are so excited about creating this space too!
